Former Professor at the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), and Visiting Professor at National Cheng Kung University. A senior scholar in space plasma and ionospheric observation, he specializes in measuring ionospheric thermal plasma using Langmuir probes and electron-temperature probes — instruments flown on sounding rockets and numerous satellites — and has collaborated for many years with Taiwanese teams on earthquake-ionosphere precursor research.
Education
- Ph.D. in Science, University of Tokyo, Japan
Career
- Professor, University of Tokyo / Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS, later part of JAXA)
- Visiting Professor, National Cheng Kung University
Research Expertise
- Plasma Diagnostics (Langmuir probes, electron-temperature probes)
- Space Physics
- Ionospheric Physics
Key Contributions
- Developed electron-temperature probes flown on sounding rockets and satellites to measure ionospheric thermal-plasma properties.
- His instrumentation contributed to plasma observations on Japan’s Ohzora satellite and the SELENE (Kaguya) lunar mission.
